Process

1. Initial consult
Can be done with CQFP or your regular GP. Options for unplanned pregnancy discussed, investigations ordered (ultrasound and blood test).

2. Investigations
Ultrasound and blood test done at your choice of provider. Ultrasound must confirm the pregnancy is inside the uterus and is less than 9 weeks gestation.

3. Prescription consult
Process and risks discussed. Consent completed. Abortion medication provided by e-prescription via text message

4. Medication taken at home
First medication should cause minimal symptoms. 36-48 hours later the second medication is taken which causes cramps and bleeding.

5. Follow up
A phone call will be scheduled to check how the process went. A repeat blood test is also required to ensure a drop in pregnancy hormone.

6. Complications
Though uncommon, complications can occur including excessive bleeding, infection and retained products of conception.
Contraception
At CQ Family Planning we believe that every woman should be able to choose if and when she has a child. In view of this we place high importance on contraception and will discuss with you the options that are available.
As a Telehealth service we are limited in the options we can provide, so will direct you to local clinics that can insert long acting reversible contraceptives if that is your preference.
